Introduction

Multi-Sectoral Programme on Violence Against Women is being implemented jointly by the Government of Bangladesh and Government of Denmark under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs. This project supports the Bangladesh Poverty Reduction Strategy and also aligned to the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and Danida's strategy for gender equality. The pilot phase of the project took place from May 2000 to December 2003, the first phase from January 2004 to June 2008 and the second phase from July 2008 to June 2011. The programme is now in its 3rd phase, which will continue until June 2016. The project is being carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Social Welfare, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Youth and Sports and Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperative.
